The Pagid RSL 2 series of pads is a new & improved version of the very well regarded RSL29 fast road and trackday pad. This pad is an OE pad (OE Part No 99735294901).
Although designed primarily for endurance racing, because of the consistent levels of performance and user friendliness many competitors use this material successfully for sprint and short distance races also. It maintains an outstanding level of control, good cold performance, long life and low disc wear.
The RSL 2 pads contains low metallic resin bonded materials containing steel and aramid fibers with high heat resistance. They maintain a constant friction level over a wide range of temperatures. Their reduced wear rate and disc friendliness make these materials appropriate for endurance races on applications with high cooling efficiency. The compound offers improved bite, friction coeffecient, disc wear, modulation & overall pad life compared to the RSL29 compound. This is important on the rear of the 997 where there is increased rearward brake bias compared to the 996 variant. The stability & traction control systems also place additional stress on the rear brakes; pad wear can become excessive on track with these sytems left on.
It is important to consider factors other than simply price when comparing brake pads; cheaper pads will likely wear more quickly (thus reducing disc life too) and may not perform consistently to the same level. The initially more costly RSL 2 product can often work out to be cheaper overall when costs are calculated over the entire season.
